Summer
The orientation will be held on Monday June 3, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. at Innovation Montessori Ocoee, 1610 N. Lakewood Ave. Ocoee, FL
Our classes will be held there in person for the summer. The majority of weekend classes will also be in person, with the exceptions being for a few Philosophy and Child Development classes that will be held on zoom.
Everyone's health is our utmost concern and we ask that you wear a mask if you are slightly ill and not attend the class if you are more ill.
The classes will be held 9:00 - 4:30 weekdays during the summer. Seminar weekend classes during the year will be 9:00 - 4:30 Sat. and 8:30 - 2:30 on Sunday.

Child Development Classroom Leadership Observation |
an in-depth look at the Montessori philosophy, Dr. Maria Montessori's life, and the role of the teacher.
the development of the child from birth through age 6, including past and current research. ideas relating to creative environmental design, the Montessori approach to positive discipline, and the role of adults in the classroom. presentation of methods and outline of recording techniques to facilitate the use of observation in setting up curriculum and environment. |
The next four major curriculum areas will include extensive materials presentations by the instructors, and supervised, hands-on practice sessions for the students. Each student will create an album of lessons for materials in these curriculum areas.

A thorough study of this "key" area which includes: Practical Skills, Care of the Person, Care of the Environment, Grace and Courtesy, Food Preparation and Sewing and Weaving.
A look at the importance of developing the child's senses as a pathway to intelligence. Refinement of the senses is practiced in order to encourage the recognition of patterns and relationships. Language is introduced to label their findings. The historical background and study of materials that help children develop the "mathematical mind". Exercises in learning the basic number system, more advanced numbers, the four operations and extensive use of decimal materials help them gain a thorough understanding of our number system. The class will also include the study of Time and Measurement. Methods of building children's oral, auditory, and motor skills, an introduction to Montessori pre-reading and pre-writing materials, and methods to bring all the preparation together to help the child master reading, writing and comprehension. Methods will include diverse topic books, drama and poetry. |
Weekend Seminars
The students and faculty will come together regularly to review summer lessons, and to continue instruction in all the areas. Additional courses will be given in art, science, music, movement, geography and cultural studies, social justice - peace education, parent involvement, and administration. There will be the opportunity to meet with faculty, to observe in established Montessori schools, and to share experiences, while gaining new insights to take back to the classroom.
